With so much talk about the importance of healthy gums, some patients may feel intimidated. If you have spent a long time ignoring problems with your gums, is it possible they have gone too far for help? Some patients may even continue to avoid the dentist out of shame or fear of hearing nothing but bad news about their gums. Drs. Roy and Adam Eskow are here to tell you that it’s never too late to take charge of your gum health. At Bethesda Dental Implant Center we offer a variety of treatments to heal and restore your unhealthy gums.
Gum Disease Treatment
For some patients, a simple deep cleaning aimed at treating gum disease is enough. This non-surgical option is more intensive than a typical cleaning to eliminate bacteria that cause gum disease.
Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation
Gum recession is a common symptom of gum disease or aggressive brushing. If your gums recede too much your teeth can even become loose over time. Drs. Eskow are among the first in the DC area to offer pinhole gum rejuvenation. This is a minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment that treats massages receding gum tissue back into place and can turn back time on your unhealthy gums.
In instances where the recession has gone too far for non-surgical treatment, Drs. Eskow may recommend gum grafting. Like a skin graft, the healthy gum tissue is grafted into a place where needed to strengthen the position of your vulnerable teeth and bones.
Cosmetic Gum Treatment
If you are most self-conscious about the look of your gums, Bethesda Dental Implant Center offers a variety of cosmetic treatments. Amongst the most common are gum recontouring and crown lengthening. If you have a “gummy” smile or uneven gums, recontouring can reshape the gum line to be smooth and even, while crown lengthening reveals more of the tooth.
If unhealthy gums have already cost you some teeth, you may also have suffered from bone loss, a common side effect of tooth loss. The eroding bone may even be visible as an indentation in your gums. Drs. Eskow can perform a ridge augmentation, also known as a ridge expansion or sinus augmentation, to build the jawline back out for smooth, beautiful gums.
