Preventive Dental Care Visits
While many of our patients initially come to us for Dr. Eskow’s expertise in periodontics and implant dentistry, many choose to stay with us for our comprehensive oral health services. We believe that a beautiful smile is a healthy smile. Our preventive dental care program includes professional cleanings and oral health check-ups at intervals tailored to your individual dental needs.
A routine oral health visit with Dr. Eskow includes:
- Comprehensive oral exam
- Cone beam 3D dental imaging
- Oral cancer screening
- Periodontal exam
- TMJ and occlusal analysis
- Consultation with the dentist
The American Dental Association recommends that children and adults visit the dentist at least every six months for a professional tooth cleaning. Patients who have a history of gum disease or other periodontal problems may need more frequent cleanings (every 3 to 4 months) to effectively prevent and manage gum disease.
Advanced Dental Technology
We utilize the latest technology in our DC area dental offices including the iCAT cone beam imaging system which takes incredible three dimensional scans of the oral cavity and surrounding areas. This allows Dr. Eskow to get a clear picture of what is going on with the teeth, bone and joints as well as the soft tissue structures. The scans are complete in just seconds and the technology is much more comfortable when compared to traditional bite wing x-rays. We utilize this imaging for all of our treatments including preventive care, TMJ treatment, dental implant planning, bone grafting and other procedures.
Do you have a healthy dental hygiene routine?
A healthy oral hygiene routine depends largely on two things:
- Daily brushing and flossing
- Regular preventive care visits to Dr. Eskow for a thorough cleaning and exam.
Patients who make these a healthcare priority typically experience better dental health in the long run and reduce their risk of exacerbating the effects of larger health concerns such as diabetes and heart disease: studies have shown that poor oral health can increase the impact that such diseases can have on overall health.
Drs. Eskow recommend that patients establish a good at home routine and visit them twice a year for preventive care. During these visits, they can look for the early signs of dental problems that can lead to more complex issues if untreated or caught after damage to the teeth and/or gums has occurred. Drs. Eskow have incorporated some of the latest dental technologies into their Bethesda dentist office, including iCAT cone beam digital imaging. More comfortable and accurate than traditional dental x-rays, this technology provides 3-D images of the entire oral cavity and can be used for a variety of treatments where a clear picture of all tissues in the mouth are necessary.
During preventive care visits, patients are also screened for signs of oral cancer and periodontal disease, both of which can be considered “silent diseases” because patients can be asymptomatic until the late stages.
Dental hygiene should be considered an important part of overall healthcare. Keeping a healthy and well functioning smile plays a key role in our daily quality of life: being able to speak normally and eat a varied diet supports our overall health long term.
If you have been avoiding the dentist, we offer sedation dentistry options to ensure that you feel relaxed and comfortable while we restore your oral health.
