Are dental implants the best option for missing teeth?

We recommend implant-retained restorations over removable restorations. Implant-secured crowns, bridges, and dentures create a long-lasting and durable restoration. Dental implants are made of titanium screws that we place in the jaw bone tissue below the gums. Because implants are made of titanium metal, they are strong enough to act as tooth roots for dental restoration.

What problems can missing teeth cause?

Missing teeth not only impact the appearance of the smile but also lead to:

  • Lake of Nutrition: One or more missing teeth make it difficult for patients to eat hard, crunchy foods. Patients may not get the nutrients they need if they cannot eat these foods and may require supplements.
  • Uneven Bite: Missing teeth create an uneven bite which may lead to TMD, a common bite problem. The temporomandibular joints which hold the lower jaw bone to the skull can cause pain in the teeth or jaw if they are under stress.
  • Bone Loss: Even patients with a single lost tooth are more at risk of further bone loss. Patients missing permanent teeth may no longer have the appropriate amount of bone structure left in their jaw.
  • Shifting Teeth: Sometimes, natural teeth can shift to fill the gap left by a missing tooth. As a result, patients may have to deal with overcrowded and crooked teeth. In addition, it can be difficult to clean crooked teeth thoroughly, which increases the risk of problems like gum disease and tooth decay.

Can I receive implants if I have a removable denture or traditional bridge?

If you have an old denture or dental bridge, we can renew your restoration with dental implants. In addition, we can place dental implants to secure your current restoration. We will determine if you are a good implant candidate before treatment. The best implant candidates have good oral health and healthy bone tissue to support the metal implant posts.
